Women Making History


The Black Employees Association of Stockton Unified School District (BEAUSD) and the Aquarian Coalition will host activities to celebrate the 95th birthday of Wilhelmina Henry.

Henry was born January 20, 1920 in Columbia, South Carolina She moved to Stockton in 1947 and soon after applied to the Stockton Unified School District for a teaching position. She was hired and became the first African-American teacher to be hired in the school district.

Along with being honored at the Citywide MLK Celebration on January 18th and 19th, an invite only birthday bash will be hosted at the Oak Park Senior Center, 730 East Fulton Street, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. For more information about the birthday bash, contact Cynthia Boyd 209.430.9927

Friends, family, and community members are then invited to attend church service with Mrs. Henry at Ebenezer A.M.E. Church, 132 N. Stanislaus Street, on January 25. Service starts at 10:45 a.m.
